Massage therapy is rapidly becoming recognized as an additional modality for treating mental health conditions. Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain. Treatment consists of physical therapy, manipulation and stretching. A firm digital pressure is applied by the therapist who is able to locate the specific points causing pain and restricted movement and these may often be located in places different to whee the client actually feels the pain.

A type of massage that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle. It is used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, lower back pain, leg muscle tightness and sore shoulders. With chronic muscle tension or injury, there may be adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendon and ligaments. Adhesions can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation. Deep tissue works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and resorenormal movement.

Trauma affects us all at one time or another. It is all around us. Unfortunately, many of us minimise trauma's effect (to the detriment of physical and emotional health). Many survivors become numb from dissociative survival skills learned during the traumatic event(s). They may be numb from drugs and alcohol, or even numb from the other distractions they have created to shield behind. Survivors of trauma often cant feel their bodies or have pried apart their various pieces of being. Trauma Touch Therapy works to integrate those pieces again. Trauma Touch Therapy is a slow application of touch that helps bring the client back to themselves, to take residence back in their own bodies. The work is led by the needs of the client, actually asking them to think through their own somatic (mind and body) needs; where is the pain? Where is the tension? It is okay to touch? this modality is a process of integration weaving itself through the course of 10 sessions with the client typically clothed.
The one requirement for entering into a Touch Therapy program is that the client must be in active psychotherapy and be referred as ready for the Touch Therapy program. Although the therapist assists with emotions and wounds coming to the surface, it is the psychotherapist who helps the client find meaning. The body worker remains just that, the bodyworker.
